Let’s dig deep and focus on getting our stories down on our pages. We will use many mixed-media techniques and writing exercises to tell our stories, to make our mark, to spill open. We will work in our journals and create pages that resonate with feeling. Come ready to write and make lots of mixed-media magic.

Please bring: Basic tool kit: Ranger craft sheet, scissors, water container to clean your brushes, baby wipes, paper towels, paper plate or palette paper to use as a palette (or you can just use your craft sheet). You may also want a small notebook and a pen for taking notes. Your art journal.

Join me and let’s play around with transparent layers in our artwork. We’ll add transparent layers to journal pages, face paintings, you name it. We’ll create transparency with the new printed and plain tissues, inks, and even acrylic paint. The layers look fabulous when visible through each other.

“Back to My Roots:
Adventures in Book Binding”
Friday, February 16th
10am-4:30pm
$135

When I started art journaling, there were very few pre-made journals to be found. So, we made our own! We made little and big books and enjoyed filling them with art. Come to this class and learn several of my favorite book constructions. We’ll use Media Board, watercolor paper, kraft paper, and more. We’ll fold, paste, and sew our way into book heaven. We’ll be throwing some painty mixed-media fun into the books, too.

Bone folder. Ruler and pencil.

I have recently started painting fun, abstract flowers, and I want to paint them with you! I’ll show you how I paint many different flowers and, depending on how much class time we have, we will create journal pages and paintings that show off our skills.

“Ordered Chaos: Advanced Abstracts”
Saturday, February 17th
10am-4:30pm
$145

This is a great followup to my class, “Finding Joy in Abstraction.” Join me as we take abstract paintings from “hotel paintings” to dynamic works of art. We will move beyond simple compositions. In the morning, we’ll move quickly and create many different paintings on paper and in your journal. In the afternoon, we will slow down and develop one single painting through many layers and incarnations. Class includes a canvas to work on in the afternoon.
