CLASS DESCRIPTION: Gather up your cherished fabric bits and make some playful, spirited, scrappy art! Use fabrics and fibers as “paint” to create simple imagery on a vertical, 12” x 40” surface making a raw edge, colorful, textile art piece. Without a pattern, use freeform shapes to intuitively create free form simple hand cut words, fussy cut fabric imagery, embellishments, fringe and decorative fibers to complete a truly unique and impressive artwork. Take home this finished masterpiece ready to hang and display proudly anywhere, on your front door or to be gifted to someone special!
COLORFUL SCRAP FABRIC In 4-5 gallon size zip lock bags - bring your own colorful scrap fabrics at (not super tiny, at least 3” in size), of your favorite colors in assorted sizes to use as a “palette”. Bring colorful prints and solids, patterns, flowers, birds, etc., as well as any images (think Tula Pink’s fun imagery and creatures!) on fat quarters or yardage. Think creative.
QUILT SANDWICH Use 3/4 yard muslin fabric (45”wide) - white or natural and 3/4 yard of fusible fleece or cotton quilt batting to bring a quilt sandwich that is 15" wide x 42" long
EMBELLISHMENTS If you have available, bring along textured yarns, ribbons and fiber scraps.
GOOD SCISSORS! You’ll also need good scissors (Karen Kay Buckley brand- light blue handles- are the best!)
sketchbook and a few colored pencils and black Sharpie marker-fine tip.
EXTRA GOODIES Instructor will bring an abundance of additional fabrics, trims and hanger to finish the project
SEWING MACHINE: Bring your own quilting thread and machine in good working order to do straight stitch sewing and free motion sewing if you know it. WSD will also have a few machines to borrow if needed.
